mourner Since their EP Sarvekas upped their game and broadend their scale by adding elements of more epic proportions. Woven Dark Paths feels more hymnic and pagan at the same time. This is still unrelenting and demonstrates sheer (raw) force but it's also more refined and has more depth and variations. I'm already curious where Sarvekas will go with their next release. Their skills in every regard are unquestioned. Favorite track: Soaring Over The Battlefields.

After the very well received "Of Atavistic Fury & Visions" EP Sarvekas release their first full-length album, "Woven Dark Paths"!
The 8-song/48-minute album is about delving into dark ancient rites, bloodletting for the forefathers, and true Nordic spirit as well as philosophy through ancient Nordic beliefs. With preternatural ease, Sarvekas transport the listener to ancient times: both the glorious 1990s, with their incredibly era-authentic style, and more so the times long, long before that, visual and violent in equal measure.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74

I've been on the hunt for more pagan black metal in the vein of Kawir recently and this album is really hitting the spot in that regard. Somehow missed this earlier in the year but glad I'm circling back to it now. This thing is full of epic riffs and battle chants from the highest peaks.
