Decent debut from a promising band. For the most part a gnarly hybrid of Autopsy and Entombed, with a lot of good ideas and some fun atmospheric ambient sections. The last track sticks around far too long, but that's the only downer really. Well worth checking out for a good blast of new-old-school. Looking forward to the next release for sure! poisonremedy
I wouldnt call it blackened death but it certainly has the bleak dark atmosphere akin to Akhlys or Watain while pummeling you with pure death metal and a touch of dissonance and doominess á la Morbid Angel..it really combines almost everything i love about metal and theres not a weak spot on here..their first album was good but this is stylistically much different and a vast improvement. The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74
